Starting from scratch to design and test a bike capable of winning an Olympic medal. That was the bold challenge behind the COMMENCAL BMX Project. Developed by our R&D team and refined with valuable input from our elite riders, Laura Smulders and Sylvain André, this is our BMX Race bike.

With hydroformed tubing, 3D forging, and 5-axis CNC machining on connecting parts, this BMX is a showcase of cutting-edge innovation. For this BMX, we’ve embraced generative design for the first time. This process, powered by AI, explores thousands of technical solutions, analysing stress points and structural demands to ensure optimal material distribution, long before the first sketch. We redefined the frame structure and identified the key areas for stiffness, in the tube and weld areas, all while respecting the essential codes of BMX.

The head tube isn’t just about maximum stiffness; it also integrates internal cable routing for the brake hose. It is fully guided for easy installation.
BOTTOM BRACKET

Assembled from two forged pieces that are machined for precision, the bottom bracket is optimised for torsional stiffness. Combined with a tapered seat tube, it ensures the rider’s acceleration and power are perfectly transmitted into speed on-track.
REAR DROPOUTS
REAR DROPOUTS
The horizontal rear dropouts, equipped with integrated chain tensioners, are designed for quick and easy gear changes under race conditions. They’re optimised for a 15mm SD-X Sniper rear hub. To handle the rider’s power, a custom spacer increases contact with the frame and guides the wheel into place seamlessly. The dropouts also accommodate a 120mm post mount disc brake adapter.

Reliability is and always has been a priority for us. Beyond our internal tests, we sent our BMX frame to EFBE, an independent lab that performs tests exceeding the ISO 4210 standards. Our BMX frame earned EFBE 5 certification - the highest achievable level of reliability and durability.
